Rock Camp Showcase!

As some of you probably already know, I will be volunteering as a counselor next week at the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

From the Camp website: "Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a one-week summer day camp. Campers learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform their own music, do workshops, make band t-shirts, buttons, and costumes, and generally rock out."

All participants will be performing at the showcase on Saturday, August 23rd at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Show is at 1p, doors open at 12p. Tickets are $6-10 suggested donation, or $35 for a Showcase Booster ticket (includes admission, t-shirt, poster and other band merch).

Buy your tickets online or at the box office. Hope to see you all there!

we got back from camp daphne last night (new photos to follow), and i'm back at work today. which is sad because the rest of this week's camp itinerary reads something like: go carts, mini-golf, nap, bbq, nap, pond swimming, hike, picnic, nap...

anyway, there is one thing that brightened my soul-sucking grey, flourescent-lit cubicle: ronan's online karoke. how did i not already know that this exists?! are there office karaoke leagues?

finally! sun basking weather. i had big plans for today too - find a magazine and some birthday presents, take some photos, learn some tagalog... but it didn't turn out that well. i downloaded a learn-tagalog podcast on itunes, but it turns out to be just this kid, who doesn't necessarily sound like he knows what he's doing, teaching only two or three phrases at a time. phrases i already know. and then he plays a song in tagalog, "this one's actually a really good cover of an old song... it kind of reminds me of sonic youth." um, not really.

the day was too bright and i was too impatient/feeling too self-conscious for photos, and i had no luck finding presents or the magazine (if anyone sees a copy of the new issue, #70, of colors magazine - snag it for me, please!).

i did trek through a good portion of the psliddy this afternoon. there were a lot of nice things at rare device and at cog and pearl*, as usual, but nothing i wanted to get for my giftees. and my tasty fried lunch at the chipshop was yummy and counteracted my morning workout nicely. i also managed to hop off the train for some candy and sorbetto at economy candy and il laboratorio del gelato (mmm... lychee sorbet.) before i overheated, developed a massive headache, and collapsed on the couch to watch ugly betty, which is my new favorite by the way. betty + henry = swoon!

*helpful hint: if you went and bought anything in these stores and then gave it to me, i would probably love it.

no, lucky peach! had us some momofuku ssam bar tonight. mm-mmm good. and you know i'm not complaining when the bread and butter comes with a bowl of sea salt. and 4 different flavors of ice cream mochi! we also had some country ham with red-eye gravy and a hanger steak ssam. there are so many more yummy things to try for next time too!

been busy at work, and tired and lazy at home. but plans are being made! also i started playing around more on 43places. i like collecting places, it's fun.

this weekend is the weekend of food. last night was shabbat dinner hosted by debbie d. and magicland, potluck tonight at beth's, and brunch with mikebot + parental units. will there be time for porkfest at the beer garden? time will tell.

also, those of you who have been to josh's house and seen his stairs, would say it was inevitable. early morning valentine's day, i made a spectacular fall down said stairs and managed to bruise myself up good. (wanna see?) but then josh made steak frites and cupcakes for dinner and i was fine.
